Ponzi Vineyards, a founding Oregon winery, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. In 1970, Dick and Nancy Ponzi passionate about making world-class Pinot noir, purchased 20 acres southwest of Portland and were some of the first to begin planting wine grapes in the Willamette Valley. Their tradition of innovation and standard for excellence has continued into the family’s second-generation ownership. The Ponzi daughters, Winemaker Luisa Ponzi and President Anna Maria Ponzi, have been operating the winery for nearly 30 years, distinguishing the producer as one of America’s only sister-owned wineries. The winery continues as a leader in Pinot noir and Chardonnay innovation through gentle handling techniques, experimentation in the vineyard and a state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery.
